RSES Announces Availability of EPA Section 609 Certification

Rolling Meadows, Ill. (Dec 13, 2017) – RSES is pleased to add the availability of the EPA Section 609 Certification to its already existing Section 608 Certification.

Under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Section 608 and 609 of the Clean Air Act program, certification is required to ensure that technicians measure up to a variety of EPA requirements on service practices and refrigerant reclamation. The RSES Educational Foundation is approved by the EPA to administer Section 608 certification testing, and RSES now offers Section 609 certification through ESCO Group.

Section 609 covers repairing, leak testing, and topping off of motor vehicle air conditioning systems low on refrigerant, as well as any other repair to the vehicle that requires dismantling of any part of the air conditioner. This certification is required to service motor vehicle A/C systems and to purchase small containers (under 20 lb) of regulated refrigerants.

In addition to being able to take the exam online and receive instant results, a free study guide that may be used during the exam, is also available for download. For more information, visit www.rses.org/EPAcerts.aspx or call 800-297-5660.
