OSHA Issues Enforcement Guidance
OSHA has issued an internal memorandum outlining enforcement guidance for some of the 2012 Hazard Communication Standard’s requirements which will go into effect June 1, 2015, reports HARDI. The memo focuses on the requirement that chemical manufacturers, importers and distributors must develop and us safety data sheets and labels for their chemical mixtures that align with the UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

College Students Participate in Inaugural HVAC Education Program

U.S. Subcommittee Holds Heating on Grid-enabled Water Heaters
The Subcommittee on Energy and Power, chaired by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY), held a hearing this March to discuss modifying efficiency standards for grid-enabled water heaters, specifically H.R. 906. The bill, first introduced by Chairman Whitfield, exempts from regulation certain thermal storage water heaters under new DOE efficiency standards that go into effect this month.

IFMA’s Credential Program Earns ANSI Accreditation
The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) recently announced that its facility-management credential program has earned accreditation and seven commendations from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Specifically, ANSI accredited IFMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) and Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) credentials.

EPA Approves Environmentally-Friendly Refrigerants
This March, under the authority of the Clean Air Act, the EPA has approved more refrigerants which they feel are environmentally friendly for use in HVAC applications. This final rule expands the list of SNAP-approved substitutes to include more low-GWP alternatives that can replace both the ozone layer depleting substances and high-GWP HFCs. The approved substitutes have GWPs that range from 3 to 675 and can replace older compounds with GWPs between 1400 to 4000.

HARDI-backed Bill Passes House of Representatives
This January, the U.S. House of Representatives passed bill H.R. 185, a HARDI-supported bill, which would increase transparency and accountability to legislators imposing new regulations.
