U.S. and China Announce Climate Change Partnership

HARDI and TRC Announce Big Man on Planet Winners
Johnstone Supply, Crescent Parts & Equipment and Corken Steel Products were named 2014 Big Man on Planet winners by the Thermostat Recycling Corp. (TRC). The annual competition among HARDI members took place May 1–Oct. 31, 2014 and yielded 55,912 mercury thermostats recycled among all participants.

ACCA Releases Addendum to Manual J
ACCA recently announced the release of Addendum E to ANSI/ACCA 2 Manual J—2011, which updates the weather data values for outdoor design conditions in MJ8 Table 1A and Table 1B. The updated version also provides a new degree day ration (HDD base 65°F/CDD base 50°F) column.

Changes Coming to Affordable Care Act
The change of regime in Congress from Democrat to Republican means changes are ahead for the Affordable Care Act in 2015. For instance, starting in 2015 businesses with 100 or more full-time employees are required to offer health insurance to at least 70% of their workforce. Employers that don’t start coverage will face penalties of approximately $2,000 for every employee in the company, minus the first 80 employees.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued its final/affirmative determination that ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1-2013 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings improves energy-efficiency in buildings compared to the 2010 version.

RSES is the leading education, training and certification preparation organization for HVACR professionals. Seminars covering air conditioning troubleshooting, electrical troubleshooting, compressor training, condenser training, refrigerant piping practices, DDC controls, and more are held in various cities across North America.

Select training programs offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and NATE Continuing Education Hours (CEHs).

In addition, RSES offers industry certification preparation materials for refrigerant handling (EPA Section 608), R-410A and North American Technician Excellence (NATE) examinations.

RSES’ monthly magazine, RSES Journal, serves HVAC contractors, service technicians, students, operations/maintenance managers, engineers and technicians who work in the residential, light commercial, commercial and institutional markets on air conditioning, warm-air heating, refrigeration, ventilation, electrical, ice machines, chillers, hydronic heating, piping, refrigeration control and energy management, building automation, indoor air quality and duct cleaning, and sheet metal fabrication equipment and/or systems.
