The RSES Member Webinar series continues with an exploration of superheat and subcooling.

The webinar will start out with the basics of the three forms of refrigerant in a closed loop system. The term saturated will be defined as it relates to the refrigeration process. The terms subcooling and superheat will be defined as it relates to the refrigeration cycle, as well as why both are needed and how they protect the compressor.

Additional topics in this webinar include: how to use the P-T More...chart to determine the correct subcooling and superheat in a system; how to determine if there is enough, too little or too much superheat in a system; and how subcooling can affect the superheat of the system and what can be done to correct its balance.

The webinar will also cover how to determine if there are non-condensables in the systems when troubleshooting. There will be discussion of the limitation of the standard P-T chart and analog gauge sets and using digital gauges and temperature probes.

Your presenter, Steve Wellander, CM, RCT, is a Service Manager for Data Aire, which provides technical support for service technicians. He has an Associate of Science degree in Food Service Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Wellander has worked with commercial refrigeration, ice machines, walk in freezers and coolers, reach in freezers and coolers, and commercial and industrial HVAC systems.

RSES webinar sponsors provide the means to offer these sessions at no cost to RSES Members, and may contact you after the event to share information regarding related products and/or services.

RSES added monthly webinars free of charge for members in early 2013.

Much like the RSES Journal, periodic technical bulletins (SAM chapters) and their respective online archives, the monthly webinars are geared to help you with technical information you can apply on the job.

Presented by some of the industry’s most sought-after technical experts, sessions range from basic to advanced levels on topics spanning the HVACR spectrum. Participation in live webinars earns CEHs automatically, and all webinars are recorded for future viewing.

Typically held the 4th Wednesday of each month, RSES members should watch their email for registration information!
