The Harris Products Group Announces an Exclusive Distribution Agreement with Worthington Industries
The Harris Products Group (“Harris”), a Lincoln Electric company, is pleased to announce that it is now the exclusive distributor of Worthington Industries air-fuel equipment in the U.S. wholesale channel, and a distributor of Worthington Industries gas cylinders. These products began shipping on January 2, 2019. This agreement broadens Harris’ brazing and plumbing product lines and complements the previously acquired soldering consumables business and certain brazing assets from Worthington Industries earlier this year.

AHRI Defines 2018 Global Program
The AHRI International Committee met to review its current and emerging international engagements and to define the committee’s 2018 goals. Members welcomed the President of the Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), Warren Heeley, as a guest speaker. Heeley briefed the committee on HRAI’s views of developments in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and Canada’s national goals for heating de-carbonization for 2030 and 2050.

Trump Budget Includes HVACR Manufacturer Wins
AHRI reports that last month, President Trump signed a new two-year budget deal into law that includes a number of tax credits and deductions from S. 2256, the Tax Extender Act of 2017, that AHRI and several member companies had worked diligently to have included. Geothermal parity tax credits (25D/48c) finally received a five-year fix (one-year retroactive and four-years prospective).

AHRI Launches New Cybersecurity Project
AHRI recently approved a new project analyzing current standards and practices applied to HVACR cybersecurity. Proposed by AHRI’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Electronic Controls product section, this project will examine anticipated threats and cybersecurity needs associated with connected HVACR systems. As one of AHRI’s standing committees, the R&T Committee, administers the association’s research program, recommending and promoting research activities to strengthen the industry’s competitive position globally.

HVAC Associations Weight in on Trump Tariffs
This April, the Trump administration put tariffs of up to 25% on imported steel and aluminum, with a focus on Chinese imports. The act has not come without comment from the HVACR industry.

USTR Proposed List of Chinese HVACR Products Subject to Tariffs
In mid-April the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced a proposed list of Chinese imports that could be subject to an additional 25% tariff once the list becomes final.

DOE Issues Enforcement Policy and Final Determination
In late February the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released an enforcement policy that acknowledged AHRI’s Next Generation Directory transition. The Directory, which was released in January, is a real-time online directory that includes more than 7.2 million listings of AHRI-Certified products.

NEBB Publishes New Building Standard
NEBB recently released ANSI/NEBB Whole Building Technical Commissioning of New Construction Standard S110-2018. The standard provides comprehensive technical guidance to a systematic development and implementation of commissioning. It describes organization, planning, procedures and methods to verify and document that the performance of building systems is (or is not) in conformance with building specifications and contract documents.
