EPA Schedules Public Hearing on Hydrocarbon Phasedown

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced will hold a hearing on Monday, October 20, 1PM-2:30 ET related to its interest in altering some requirements related to the phasedown of hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants (Phasedown of Hydrofluorocarbons: Reconsideration of Certain Regulatory Requirements Promulgated Under the Technology Transitions Provisions of the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act of 2020 (90 FR 47999). This proposed rule (Reconsideration of Certain Technology Transitions Requirements Promulgated under the Technology Transitions Provisions of the AIM Act) is a response to petitions for reconsideration and other requests from companies and trade associations across a number of subsectors, including refrigerated transport – intermodal containers, industrial process refrigeration and chillers used in semiconductor manufacturing, retail food refrigeration systems for remote condensing units and supermarkets, cold storage warehouses, and certain refrigerated laboratory equipment. This action also seeks public information through an advance notice of proposed rulemaking section for potential actions to address supply chain issues for a refrigerant blend.
